Meet The Beasts is
a highly flexible, fast response & growing business founded
by Dr Stuart Wood who, as a youngster, spent a lot of time staring
at beautiful creatures through glass when he would
have loved to touch them.
Having kept a wide range of reptiles (snakes & lizards) & minibeasts (spiders, scorpions, snails, insects & millipedes) for many years as pets, Stuart brings now his beasts to schools, businesses, community & hospitals, enabling people of all ages to overcome deep-seated & long-held fears & grow in confidence through touching, feeling & handling these fascinating creatures. Meet The Beasts is all about up-close; in-person; without the glass. Seeing & looking become a tactile experience!
Stuart is passionate about the positive benefits of encountering these beautiful creatures in the flesh. He has enabled many people to overcome serious fears so that they can be confident to step-out & try something new: at work; at home; in life.
He is also passionate about the power & effectiveness of reptile handling & minibeast encounters to help you feel good about yourself.
Meet The Beasts focuses on animal interaction (touching, stroking, holding, viewing snakes, lizards & minibeasts (tarantulas, millipedes, scorpions, cockroaches & giant snails) close-up without glass. We prefer to 'do' rather than 'talk', although we have the science background & communication skills to deliver memorable facts on a wide range of subjects including minibeasts, wriggle & crawl, animal care, adaptation & camouflage, rainforests, habitat & more.
Our greatest impact is seen in those with least confidence, learning difficulties & those on the margins with behavioural problems. Interaction with our reptiles & minibeasts facilitates social awareness & enhances communication & language skills, in pupils & students of all ages.
Meet The Beasts is also a great enrichment experience, equipping your students with enhanced knowledge, social skills & confidence.

"Thank you! It was brilliant.
The kids were really buzzing afterwards and I think
you even managed to impress our most "grumpy"
staff member! Thank you also for recognising that our
kids are actually quite lovely."

"If you had told me this morning that I would be
touching a snake today, let alone holding one, I would never have believed you.

Meet The Beasts is an extension to the existing Pets As Therapy concept.
Research shows that encounters with reptiles & minibeasts stimulate communication & social interaction in patients/service-users unresponsive or less responsive to furry animals. This is especially true in male patients with depression.
We work with mental health professionals & practitioners in the NHS & private sector to provide animal assisted therapy in a safe, non-threatening environment. We believe in flexibility & always seek to provide what you want, allowing for changes depending on response. We work with individuals & small groups (up to 25 max).
We are also very happy to bring our animals into hospitals, hospices & residential homes for patients to encounter one-to-one.

"We were recapping events this morning ... & someone
raised how the Meet the Beasts room had been so beneficial to some
of the Mencap young ambassadors who came to you, in facing their
fears & building their confidence. This was something we hadn't
banked on but was fabulous.""
